Table of Contents

1. Where to Start

Any grammatical or spelling error is treated as a sin in the CSS Exam, hence I usually advocate studying the Basic English principles first. In my last article, I also mentioned the need of practising English.

2. Download Syllabus

First and foremost, you must download and print the CSS syllabus. Now carefully read the syllabus for all CSS required subjects. This is the most important step in CSS preparation since you must select optional subjects that overlap with mandatory subjects.

3. Compulsory Subjects

Starting with mandatory subjects is the next stage in CSS preparation at home. CSS optional subjects should not be chosen until you have completed the mandatory subjects. Begin with English Grammar. Your preparation will be a waste of time if you don't know English grammar. Throughout your preparation, continue to learn and study English grammar books. The preparation of your English essay should come towards the end of your CSS preparation. Yes! Yes, you read that correctly. After you've completed the optional and mandatory CSS subjects, you'll have a plethora of data facts and figures to use in your CSS essay writing. It will be much preferable if you have an English tutor with a Ph.D. or MPhil check your essays or precis for CSS English Essay and Grammar.

4. Select Optionals

After English, students can choose from a variety of elective courses. By considering two factors: your educational background and your area of interest. Some narrators also suggest looking at scoring trends. However, I feel that your plan, not a score tendency, is what matters at the end of the day.

5. Smart Selection of Optional Subjects

It is critical to choose optional subjects. Subject selection can be divided into two groups. Those applicants who are fresh to all of those courses or have some knowledge about them fall into our first category. Only those subjects that overlap with CSS Compulsory or any other optional subjects should be chosen by such students. At home, we are focusing on time management as part of our CSS preparation. Overlapping subjects will save us time and will not add to the stress of studying for the CSS exam.

6. Materials for CSS

Check out the recommended-books list on the FPSC website. Choose one reference book and one CSS-specific book. For starters, two books and online resources are sufficient for a more intelligent CSS study.

7. Books for CSS

There are certain misconceptions that you must read a large number of books. This is far from the case. Students who do not have good reading habits should read research papers on various themes. These study articles are only summaries of many books. Some students, on the other hand, have a tendency of reading books. These students can read novels by many foreign authors at home to prepare for CSS. Students who are unfamiliar with CSS and wish to learn more about what to study and what to know can purchase CSS books from a variety of Pakistani publishers, including JWT, Caravan, Advance, and Dogar.

8. Start Taking Notes

Examine previous papers and make a list of the most frequently asked questions. Because it is difficult to discover every topic in a single book, study these topics from books and the internet. Then, focusing on 5Ws and 1H, take notes. For example, the subject of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) can be found in Current Affairs, Pakistan Affairs, Essays, and International Relations. Make a list of why CPEC was started, when it began, and how this Flagship Project would benefit both Pakistan and China. That's how you can get started with CSS Preparation if you're a newbie.
